The Non Reluctant Reader Best of 2012 Awards: Top Ten Heroines

Welcome to day one of The Non Reluctant Reader Best of 2012 Awards! Today's topic is...
The Top Ten Heroines of 2012
2012 has been a year that has introduced the YA world to fierce, new, totally rockin' chicks along with veteran leading ladies continuing to shine and dominate. Its really been a great year in terms of characters that  really bounce off the page! Anyway, on with the list!
10
Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1)
Alina from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Alina was one badass chick. One fierce warrior with awesome powers.
9
Velveteen (Velveteen, #1)
Velveteen from Velveteen by Daniel Marks
It's impossible not to think Velveteen is a freaking awesome main character. Such a well crafted personality.
8
Falling Kingdoms (Falling Kingdoms, #1)
Cleo from Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes
Though Falling Kingdoms lacked in the plot section, Cleo is a seriously good princess.
7
Pandemonium (Delirium, #2)
Lena from Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
In Delirium, Lena was a 2-d character at best. However out in the wild away from the society that indoctrinated her, she truly shines and adopts a Katniss aura.
6
Struck (Struck, #1)
Mia from Struck by Jennifer Bosworth
Mia is a pretty cool super-girl! Thunder powers? Hell yeah!
5
A Touch Morbid (A Touch Trilogy, #2)
Eden from A Touch Morbid by Leah Clifford
Eden is just such a ball of awesome, sarcastic, kick-ass sexiness.
4
Black City (Black City, #1)
Natalie from Black City by Elizabeth Richards
Natalie is a character that really grows on you. You start off as seeing her as kind of a brat and then she turns into a really fierce, independent thinker. An awesome transformation to watch.
3
The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #2)
Mara from The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
Ah, Mara, Mara, Mara, such a tortured soul with a great voice. Probably the hardest character to figure out on this list.
2
Insurgent (Divergent, #2)
Tris from Insurgent by Veronica Roth
I named one of my hamsters after Tris. 'Nuff said.
1
Reached (Matched, #3)
Cassia from Reached  by Ally Condie
Cassia tops this list for the second year in a row. The reason she's queen of 2012 heroines for me is her voice and her really well layered personality. Ally Condie never ceases to make you feel like you're in Cassia's shoes. Cassia will be missed next year.

Well, there you have it ladies and gents, the fictional queens of 2012!
Check back tomorrow for THE TOP TEN HEROES OF 2012.

  1. I might have to check some of these books out. My fear of most books is that the characters are very 2D and boring but some of those said books are on this list and I might have to read them and find out who they are for myself!

  4. One day, I will get a dog. And when I do, I shall name him or her Fourty-Six, after the number of fears Four and Tris have. (I know there's no 'u' in forty, but I want 'Four' to be in the name.)

  5. Great list! I agree with your comments about Natalie from Black City. At the beginning, I thought she was spoiled and selfish but loved her transformation!

Thank you for the comment, I love and appreciate each and every one! As of March 2012, The Non Reluctant Reader is an awards-free zone. I'm honored to be considered, but do not currently have the time to pass the award on. Comments are the best award I can receive though! If the comment requires a reply, please be sure to check back for one. If it is a feature/meme leave a link to your post and I will stop by and comment if I get the chance!
