The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
Summary: Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.
She's wrong.
My review: To call this debut novel amazing is like calling the sky blue. I fell in love with this book on page one!
This book has one of the best beginnings I've ever read, when someone wakes up in the hospital with no memory of how she got there, you can't help to read on. Mara was a great main character. (She was) sarcastic, witty and oh, so much fun to read about!
Noah was also incredibly awesome, cool to the power of ten and just about the best guy in YA. Period.
Hodkin's writing was thrilling, and had me pulling my hairs out (I'm not lying) with worry for Mara. If this is her debut, then her next book must be something godly.
I'm going quote Beth Revis on this one "WOW. Michelle Hodkin's debut will keep you guessing until the last page- and long after". It was so suspenseful and you had NO IDEA what was coming next, at all. It was like me watching the Sounder's game last night, covering my eyes because I was so on the edge with suspense. And I loved it (in terms to this book, not the Sounders game).
I'm going to use this picture to describe my feelings once I finished this book:
WTF, because of the crocodiles. OMG, because this was so amazing.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give this book a 1,000! By far the best debut of 2011, if not the best book. Get your a** to a bookstore and buy this book, if you don't like it, I'll refund your purchase myself!
5/5
Cover Comments: Wowsers, I love that dress and the fact that they're underwater.

  5. Wah! Glad you loved it too. I was also hooked from the very first page. I'm usually wary of amnesia books but I felt the summary made it seem like it was going to be a bigger part of the story, which I am glad it wasn't. And the ending was just sooo suspenseful! Great review :)

  36. I have read other reviews that say it is hard to explain this book, and I agree. It is captivating, creepy, mysterious, sexy, funny, fast paced, etc. I usually love dystopian series like Divergent and Hunger Games and Delirium, but this for me is a close 2nd behind Divergent. I read it in 3 days and absolutely loved it. So unique. Was blown away.
