Nothing ever came between sisters Alice and Charlie.
Friends didn't.
Boys couldn't.
Their family falling apart never would.
Until they got to Serenity Point.
In a town built on secrets and lies, it’s going to be hard to stay innocent.
The Innocents was really a tale of halves for me. The first half of the novel lacked any real interesting plot development whereas the second half was a huge suspense case with lots of twists and turns. In truth, the only thing that really happened in the first half was we were introduced to a few characters. Pretty much the first half was a two star read and the second half was a five star read... so if you're willing to get invested in a book by reading a few boring pages, this book is worth a read.

The characters in this book were really interesting, and they were probably the best part of the novel. I loved the development we saw in the two sisters, Alice and Charlie, as they get corrupted by the city they live in.

The suspense build-up in this novel was very well written as the plot developed and new secrets are revealed and new questions were being asked.  There is one jaw-dropping, "what the hell", moments in it that were truly awesome. The book ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger, so be warned.

Though it was riddled with a few major flaws, overall, The Innocents was a very suspenseful, edgy, mystery.

  1. Ooooh, The Innocents, looks really, really good. I meant the fact they are corrupted by this city means epic character development, which I LOVE. Great review, put this on my TBR List and I shall wait for it to come to my local book store. :D

  4. I was thinking about maybe reading this and I was reluctant at first because it's not that interesting in the beginning, but now that you say it gets better, I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks for the review.

  6. That's how I felt ..half of it being really nothing (introducing characters and such) and the other half being flippin' awesome and having these OH CRAP moments. Nice review, Benji and why yes, I am commenting at 4:30am. YOLO.

  8. Interesting. Although if the writing is not consistent from the beginning, I'm not sure I'd read it.

    Great review. =)

  9. Hmm...I'm glad you came to like this book in the end, but ti really doesn't look like something I'd like. With the first half being full of nothing much, as you said, I'm not too sure I'd be able to make it through and still enjoy the book, unless it's positively EPIC.

  10. Oh now thats a hard choice. To have a book which is boring then interesting? That must take a lot of patience to read haha but I guess I can try if it really is as good as you say =)

  11. I have been wondering about this book, I mean the cover didn't really pull me in and when that happens sometimes I tend to over look so really good books. Though I do love books that explore the bonds between siblings, the good and the bad. I will have to give this one a try when I hit the library in a few days.

  16. I've seen The Innocents around but I haven't read many reviews for it so it's good to get another opinion :) It's ashame that the start lacks any real interesting plot development but at least it picks up half way through. Glad you enjoyed it, great review!
