A New Years Resolution

I usually don't do New Years resolutions normally. What are they worth? You forget them after a week and they're always completely unrealistic. But this year I have one that I think is critical for myself and for The Non Reluctant Reader. Here goes...

2012 was the year that The Non Reluctant Reader really got established and became a "big" blog. My follower count has tripled since the end of last year, and I have firm publisher and author relations. During 2012, I spent so much of my time organizing blog events, coming up with new and exciting content for The Non Reluctant Reader, talking to industry professionals, and much more that I ended up with much less time to read.

In 2011, I read 113 books. In 2012, I read 73. That's a forty book difference. That's too much. Way too much. So, in 2013, my New Years resolution is to get back to the books. To spend more time reading and slightly less time networking. Because without books getting read, there aren't reviews to be written. And currently I consider reviews the most important part of a book blog by a long shot. Don't worry, I will still continue to come up with exciting new ideas to keep The Non Reluctant Reader fresh and entertaining, I will still do plenty of everything I did in 2012, but I vow to myself and to my readers that in 2013 I will spend more time reading then I did in 2012. I'm not sure what my book count goal is going to be, but I plan on it being at least 100.

Anyhow, Happy New Years, and know that nothing will be changing, in fact I hope The Non Reluctant Reader continues to evolve in 2013, but do know that I will get back to the books and spend more time reading this year.

  2. Oh my goodness! I have had the exact same problem as you! Last year I read 118 books, this year it was only 78!! And the difference is that this year I started blogging (although my blog is not nearly as successful as yours - congratulations on doing so awesomely in 2012 by the way! :D). It seems that spending time blogging about books has significantly decreased my time actually reading them! :(

Good luck for the new year, and I will be with you with the getting back to books and spending more time reading in 2013 :D

  3. I read a lot less in 2012 too. Blogging, networking and signings take so much time but with any luck we'll be able to read more amazing books in 2013.

  4. You have inspired me to start a list of books I read this year. Since I'm not a tv watcher, I used to read at night, but lately I waste a lot of evenings online and need to get back to reading!

  6. I definitely did not read as many books this year as I did last year, either. Great resolutions and happy new year!

  8. I think 2012 was just a shorter year (haha!) and took away from everyone's ability to read as much !! ;)

  9. At least you met your goal. :)
Don't be too disappointed. But for sure, reading more next year should be a good thing.

  10. I too found that I read a little less this year. Lots of stuff going on behind the scenes but hopefully everything will fall into place this year and I will get back on track. I like your blog this is my first visit I keep track of your reading progress on Good Reads.

  11. It was a busy year for me also. I didn't get to read nearly as many books as I wanted to in 2012 and I plan to get lots more reading in this new year. :)

  12. I did not actually keep up with how many books I read last year, but I wasn't able to finish a single book past August because I was so busy. I would really like to make a large dent in TBR pile this year and also get some of the books that I don't actually have yet. Great plan to read more books.
