Deadly Cool: Character This or that! And a giveaway!

DEADLY COOL BY GEMMA HALLIDAY
Today we have a character this or that for the Deadly Cool Blog Tour, where the character picks one of two things. Please welcome Hartley from Deadly Cool!
(Played by the author, Gemma Halliday)!
Here we go!
Hartley: Thanks so much for having me on your blog! I feel like a celebrity or something. Too cool!

Benji: Would you rather go to sleep reading pride and prejudice, or wake up to a breakfast of pizza and orange juice?

Hartley: Oh, tough one. I do love the feel of old romantic books like P & P, but since my mom is a gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan food zazi (sorry, Mom! But it’s true!), pizza is a rare indulgence in my house. So I’m gonna have to go with the pizza. Especially if there’s peperoni involved.
Benji: Who would you rather spend a day with? Your favorite actor or favorite musician?
Hartley: Musician! I’ll admit it, I have a soft spot for the bad boys. (Just don’t tell the editor of my school paper, Chase. He’d never let me live it down.)

Benji: Math or science?

Hartley: Yikes, do I have to pick? Mrs. Perry’s chem class is killer hard with all the memorization, and my trig teacher, Mrs. Blasberg, thinks homework is a fun pastime. It’s a toss up.

Benji: Who would you rather want for a boyfriend? Good looks, no brain or ugly, and smart?

Hartley: I’ve so gone the good looks and no brains route, and it did not end well. In fact, it ended in a dead body. So this one is easy: ugly and smart!

Benji: Michael Jackson or Lady Gaga?

Hartley: Lady Gaga all the way. She’s so cool. My best friend Sam and I stood in line all morning to get tickets to her show, even if they were way up in the nosebleed section.

Thanks for stopping by, Hartley and Gemma!
Now onto the giveaway fun! Gemma has kindly offered up a set of trading cards from Deadly Cool to one lucky winner! The giveaway runs till October 11th at Midnight Pacific Time. The giveaway is open WORLDWIDE, so international epic peeps, this is for you too! How do you enter? Fill out this form!

Deadly Cool (ARC)

Hello. I'm here with an ARC review from the wonderful ARC tour site Around the World Tours. It looks like we have a mystery on our hands-- Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday!
Summary: First I find out that my boyfriend is cheating on me. Then he’s pegged as the #1 suspect in a murder. And now he’s depending on me to clear his name. Seriously?

As much as I wouldn’t mind watching him squirm, I know that he’s innocent. So I’m brushing off my previously untapped detective skills and getting down to business. But I keep tripping over dead bodies and I’m still no closer to figuring out who did it. And what’s worse: all signs seem to point to me as the killer’s next victim.

I really need to pick a better boyfriend next time.

My review: This book looked really interesting. I love the Sherlock Holmes stories and one of the first books I read when I was learning to read was The Boxcar Children and I'm naturally attracted to mystery novels, I would love to be prowling the streets of London, or in this case, a suburban California town.

The book begins with Hartley and her best friend Sam breaking into Hartley's boyfriend's (pardon me, Hartley, ex-boyfriend) locker... Let's just say they don't like what they find. So they head over to his place to confront him... instead they find a dead body. Yikes! I was surprised by how easy Hartley handled it. She was like "Okay, man. There's a dead body in the closet... someone call the police." if I found a dead body I'd be like "Holy BEEP, what the BEEP is happening?! What the BEEP is going on?! Run away super BEEPing fast!"... so I wasn't sure if I should have been impressed or horrified by her lack of panic.

I really liked Hartley, she was had such a funny voice! The book had me rolling on the floor at some points because she is so freakin' hilarious. She's very sure of herself. I also loved her description of other people... she has a knack for being spot-on and laugh out loud at the same time.
The one thing I didn't enjoy about this book was the predictability. By page 75 I had narrowed down the suspect to two people... by page 150 I knew for sure... and (of course) I was right! I like not knowing what's going to happen.... but this one was a little too easy... but that doesn't take too much away from the fun plot-line.
I enjoyed the action in this book... though I liked how Halliday made a perfect blend of action and pure plot development. This book had just enough action, just enough dialog and a perfect amount of back story, which is something I complain about a lot!
Overall, this book is a fun, thrilling, novel that will leave readers wanting to know what happens to Hartley after the murderer is caught... I need too know at least.
4/5
Cover Comments: Freaky girl in cat pose, not a win! Blue eyes are cool though. I liked how the earbuds form the "Cool"... those earbuds are very important later...

As always, thanks to Around the World ARC Tours for the ARC.
Deadly Cool is out October 11th, preorder it on Amazon.
