What if there were teens whose lives depended on being bad influences? This is life for sons and daughters of fallen angels in Sweet Evil.

Tenderhearted Southern girl, Anna Whitt, was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She’s aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn’t until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage, and her will-power is put to the test. He’s the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

A cross-country trip to meet her father forces Anna to face the reality that hope and love are not options for her kind. When she confronts her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?
I've said this time and time again: I don't usually like angel/fallen angel books. Most of the time I try to steer clear of them. They bother me, because of how repetitive they are (for an outline of how that is, see my A Touch Mortal review). But Sweet Evil sounded too good to pass up!

Right from the get-go I really liked Anna. She was kindhearted and sweet. The perfect friend. But when Kaidan Rowe shows up, he world is turned upside down. But I really liked how she handled the transition from good girl #1 to fallen angel's daughter without losing her identity and good personality traits!

The one thing that makes this book a 4 star read instead of a 5 read was the climax. The climax was not intense, and I felt like it didn't live it up to the pressure and suspense earlier in the book. The climax wasn't boring, but it didn't feel very climatic.

The writing style of Higgins's was very fun to read. Like Twilight you can read it fast and without a lot of pausing to figure out what's going on. Even though it sometimes bothers me when authors "dumb down" their writing, their was so much going on in this book I really liked it.

Sweet Evil was a fun, thrilling read. I look forward to more from Wendy Higgins!
Cover Comments: I really like the color of the dress matched with the trees, but that dude is just sorta freaky!

  2. Wow, it is not often that I hear Twilight referenced ina review while showing praise. I like it, though, because it makes perfect sense. And I understand what you mean about the angels/fallen books. I'm reading one right, just finished one, and have at least one more to read. Some aspects are intriguing, but in the end we can guess what's going to happen. It takes away some of the question of what's going to happen. But this book DOES look great. I love the cover. :)

  5. This book and author are new to me. Too bad about the climax as the cover is quite nice. Thanks very much for the review. 4 stars is still a good rating so I will probably take a look. :D

  8. Seriously, why are the dudes on YA covers so creepy?!?! I'm planning to try this, even though I agree that most angel books are pretty awful. My exception has been Unearthly.
