Six months have passed since Laurel saved the gateway to the faerie realm of Avalon. Now she must spend her summer there, honing her skills as a Fall faerie. But her human family and friends are still in mortal danger--and the gateway to Avalon is more compromised than ever.
When it comes time to protect those she loves, will she depend on David, her human boyfriend, for help? Or will she turn to Tamani, the electrifying faerie with whom her connection is undeniable?
Coming into Spells I wasn't expecting it to be that extraordinary. Wings was pretty good, but nothing special. Spells however was a prime example of how an author can only get better!

Spells starts the summer after the events of Wings unfolded with Laurel going to Avalon to study for her fall faerie duties. I found all the faerie aspects of the book to be really fun to read about! Pike has wove such a complex, colorful world that just amazed me.

Laurel is, as she was in Wings, an awesome main character! She was an awesome person and I really admired and respected her for it!

The settings in Spells are really lush and amazingly detailed! It felt like you were in the book, experiencing what Laurel was experiencing!

The love triangle in Spells has only gotten harder to chose a side since Wings, but right now I'm leaning toward Team David. Tamani seems to self centered and clingy for my liking, but if YA lit has taught be anything, it's that the nice guys never get the girl.

A purely amazing sequel, Aprilynne Pike is blossoming into an amazing writer!
Cover Comments: This cover is okay, I mean the flower is pretty enough, but I expect more of the cover designing team at Harper Teen, after seeing what they've done in the past.

  1. I agree - Spells was definitely better than Wings! Hmm, personally, I was leaning towards Team Tamani, but you're right, I never really though about it - but it's quite true that the nice guys never seem to get the girl.
Did you know that the fourth book - Destined - just came out? Exciting! Can't wait to read it! :)

The nice guys never get the girl? What about . . . Hmmmm. I just realised I can't ask about him because that's a major spoiler! =P But even he doesn't count, I guess, because he ended up "bad" in a way, in the last book of the trilogy.

Okay, I'll stop talking to myself! LOL!
