Summary: Lauren Oliver captivated readers with Delirium, the first book in a thrilling dystopian trilogy in which Lena Haloway dared to fall in love with Alex and escape the cure, the government-mandated procedure that renders a person immune to the disease of love. Lena and Alex staked their lives on leaving their oppressive society, but only Lena broke free.
Pandemonium continues Lena’s gripping story. After escaping from Portland, Maine, Lena makes it to the Wilds and becomes part of an Invalid community, where she transforms herself into a warrior for the resistance. A future without Alex is unimaginable, but Lena pushes forward and fights, both for him and for a world in which love is no longer considered a disease. Swept up in a volatile mix of revolutionaries and counterinsurgents, Lena struggles to survive—and wonders if she may be falling in love again. Full of danger, forbidden romance, and exquisite writing, Lauren Oliver’s sequel to Delirium races forward at a breathtaking pace and is sure to appeal to fans who crave the high-stakes action of The Hunger Games and the bittersweet love story of Romeo & Juliet.
My review: WARNING: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. MAJOR GUSHING AHEAD!
There are few books that combine romance and action so perfectly and to such a great effect. Though the romance is the main story-line, there is plenty of action to keep your heart pumping! There was a lot more action then Delirium.
I don't usually talk too much about the settings in books that are sequels, because frankly, they don't change much. But this one had SUCH an AWESOME setting: The Wilds, it was impossible to overlook! I loved comparing the two societies of this book: the anti-love, organized, heavily secure cities that had their borders closed to the "wilds", where they had to work to survive and constantly lived in fear of America's corrupted government. The world-building is so amazing in this book!
One thing I hated: THERE WAS NO ALEX. ALEX ROCKED. AND THERE WAS NO ALEX. I had read advanced reviews that had said Alex wasn't going to be in it... but I still was really sad when I read the book and he wasn't in it...
This book was told in a unique chapter styling: one chapter was THEN, where it told about Lena when she first came to the wilds... and then there was NOW, which told what was happening, well, now. It continued that way in til the stories met-up, and then the last 50 pages was just one big chapter. I thought this was an interesting way to tell the story, and I enjoyed it a lot! One minute Oliver had me on the edge of my seat, then it would change chapters and time and I'd be met with a whole new cliffhanger!
This book was pure awesome. M'kay? Go out and buy it the second it comes out!

Cover Comments: This book's cover is really nice, but it doesn't match with my Delirium cover :'-(
I've also read that there's no Alex. :'( I just don't want to believe it until I read it. I'm so excited for Pandemonium--I pre-ordered it! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it. Makes me even more excited. :)
ReplyDeleteI've got to be the only person who didn't know that there is no Alex ( which is kind of a turn off for me because the romance between the two was one of the best things about the book) however I'm curious about the more action part! Great Review :)
ReplyDeleteNo Alex?!? I am kind of skeptical now about whether I'll like this sequel because Alex was the best part of Delirium!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty bummed about no Alex too. :( I agree with Sarah, he was the best part of Delirium! The setting sounds awesome, though. It'll be nice to see a different side of Lena's world.
ReplyDeleteit's a great review, thx
ReplyDelete=)
oh god i can't wait till it comes out. I just started Delirium yesterday and haven't really got to the good parts yet.

ReplyDeleteI have to admit to you here that I didn't read your review. I saw that you gave it 5/5 and that was all I wanted to know:) I was afraid of any spoilers! I CAN'T wait to read this one. Shari over at My Neurotic Book Affair
ReplyDeleteAwesome review. At first, I didn't like Delirium that much...until I got to the end. I'm said Alex won't be in Pandemonium, he was awesome :( But, I definitely give this book a shot!
ReplyDeleteI need to get in gear and read Delirium... it's sitting on my bookshelf still. I hear great things about this series.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I'm so excited for Pandemonium, I loved Delirium!
ReplyDeleteWTH?! NO ALEX!!! WHY!!! I love him. Seriously, he's the only reason why I made it through Delirium. God, what happened!
ReplyDeletePooh I'm so jealous! I want to read it now! But I heard the cliffhanger is even worse than the first book? Dunno if my heart can take that
ReplyDeleteGreat review benji, u seemed to love it so that's a good sign.

ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by the style of the writing; I think this could be confusing if done by any author less fantastic then Lauren Oliver!
NO ALEX???!!! I can't believe it! But I guess I'll have to take your word for it, as I haven't read it yet! I'm glad that we get to see Lena become even more of an awesome female protagonist!!
Thanks for the review!

ReplyDeleteI've heard conflicing reviews about this one, although I will still be reading it. I think sometimes it's hard when an author changes the writing style in a series, so I'm curious to see what I think when I read it. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteGreat review. Can't wait to read. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review! Can't wait to read it! 5/5? Sounds great :)

ReplyDeleteI am so excited to read this book!! I have heard it is great! I am pretty surprised and sad about how there is no Alex though after all that time we read about it in the first book.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading Delirium, say, a few pages. I like the unique idea of it - love is a disease. I haven't even met Alex... Anyway,I'm looking forward to it, as well as Pandemonium. I love the blue cover of Delirium. And this cover really doesn't match..
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed this one I can't wait to read it. Great review :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me why I wanted to read this. Need to dig it out.
