City of Fallen Angels

City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare
Release Date ~  4/5/11
Format ~ Hardcover
Publisher ~ Simon and Schuster Children's
Source ~ Bought from Amazon
Rating ~ 5/5
Summary: The Mortal War is over, and Clary Fray is back home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She's training to become a Shadowhunter and to use her unique power. Her mother is getting married to the love of her life. Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at peace at last. And—most important of all—Clary can finally call Jace her boyfriend.
But nothing comes without a price.
Someone is murdering the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine’s Circle, provoking tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters that could lead to a second bloody war. Clary’s best friend, Simon, can’t help her. His mother just found out he’s a vampire and now he’s homeless. Everywhere he turns, someone wants him on their side—along with the power of the curse wrecking his life. And they’re willing to do anything to get what they want. At the same time he’s dating two beautiful, dangerous girls—neither of whom knows about the other.
When Jace begins to pull away from Clary without explaining why, she is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: She herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace.
Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. The stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.
Wow. Cassandra Clare is the official author of epicness. This book takes place a short time after the battle in Iris in which Clary killed her father, Valentine. Clary finally has time to work on her relationship with Jace, and train to become a Shadowhunter. But all is not well in the New York underworld...

In City of Fallen Angels, Simon,  my favorite character, plays a much bigger role then he did in the other books. I really enjoyed that because he was my favorite character in the first 3 books, and in this one he finally finds girls that prefer boys that aren't moody as heck. So yay Simon!

Just one thing negative: I felt like this book didn't live up to the first three on the action-meter, I felt like there were a few boring parts where I felt like falling asleep because nothing was going on, it was basically
"Teenage angst for 50 pages, plot development for 10, more angst, bit more plot" and so on and so forth. That just bored me. The book was 424 pages long, and I felt like it could be the same full story in 350. That being said, it still entertained me mostly.
City of Fallen Angels was a really good follow-up with a cliffhanger ending that will have readers running to the bookstore to buy the 5th on it's release date in May.
5/5
Cover Comments: I like this better then the covers of the other books in the series, but I want just a tad more besides characters,a snapshot of a city, and fire.

  1. I agree I thought the first three books were more intense then City of Fallen Angels. Don't get me wrong I liked it but it was lacking something for me but it has been awhile since I read it.
    Great review!

  2. I'm currently reading Clockwork Price and after that I'll definitely read The Mortal Instruments. Some people told me not to read because it's not so good, but I see you gave it 5 stars so I'll give it a try! :)

  3. I've yet to start this series, though I do have all the books on hand. I tend to often wait till the series is done or there are 3 or 4 books out in it, as I like to read them back to back.

  4. I'm in love with Cassandra Clare and all of her books. I kind of feel like I need to reread the first four books before the next one comes out just because so much happened in the first three that I have a hard time remembering all of the events.

  5. I have almost all of Cassandras books. I haven't gotten to read them yet. I have to work on it. 5/5 is a great rating and so many others also rate it high. I know I will love it.

  7. I loved this book and the series. It's not perfect because as I went back and I review it I found some week spots but as I was reading it nothing mattered. Cassandra Clare has a great talent to write books that suck you in and there's no stopping until you finish the book. I loved it! Great review.

  10. Oh I so agree on Simon. He's one of my favorites and I kind of felt like he got shafted in the first books. So glad to see him getting more action now! I really can't wait to see where this series goes. Luckily, we don't have long to wait now!

  11. I'm one of those fans who LOVED the firs three books, but like you, felt like this one REALLY didn't live up to the first three. I don't know, I love that Simon is given a bigger role to play, but the angst and the love triangle and the fickleness and the never ending drama really ruined this book for me. It's saving grace is the freakish and random ending and I really want to know what happens next, but I'm also sick of Clary and Jace always angsting and never being happy. The drama and overall lack of action until the end really bothered me, and I was unable to enjoy it at all. I also hate books that seem...unnecessary. In my opinion, the first three are flawless. To add more and elongate the story further really takes something away.

  13. Great review! I really liked this book, but not as much as the rest of the series, to be honest. I'm really looking forward to City of Lost Souls though :D

  14. I have this on my bookshelf, and haven't read it yet...I was a bit reluctant after I heard so many other people say the book was not what they had hoped for.

But after I read this review, I'm pretty excited to read it now! But only for Simon. Thank you for that! (:

  15. You were right. It's not as fun as the first 3 books. Maybe because there's no real conflict or war's plot!

  16. I really love the series *Jace Wayland as well*. The plot is really compelling and the characters are adorable and great warriors although the first three books were bit more interesting than the fourth one but Cassandra Clare gave us another cliffhanger that made us wanted to read for more.

  18. I loved City of Fallen Angels too, but I know what you mean about the length...I think it could have been shortened a bit. And Cassie definitely ranks among the writing gods with her cliff-hangers.

    Great Review

  19. I like the 3 first books more than this book, but the cliffhanger of this one is killing me.
And yes I like Simon in COFA more than in the previous book.

  20. No doubt that I totally love this series! But I haven't read this fourth installment yet. I think I'm a little--just very little--hesitant to read this. You gave it five perhaps the story developed on you. I do hope it's better for me.

  21. I always loved him throughout the series. I missed the comments from Magnus. Also missed the passion between Jace and Clary but that wasn't part of this story so I understand why it wasn't there. Overall a great read and I certainly cannot wait for the rest to come out. I already pre-ordered the next one!!

  22. Like you said, Cassie is the queen of epicness! :)
I love this series so much, but I have to agree with you that CoFA doesn't live up on the other three books.
